With a little plot twist to my UNQUALIFIED series…
Last Wednesday, I got to grab a photo with a man whose name, perhaps more than any other, is synonymous with ‘leadership’.
This may be more honest than I care to be, but…
Years ago, I binged on John Maxwell’s content. Between moving away from those environments I’d been in, and seeking more intellectually challenging content, I haven’t paid much attention to him over the last number of years.
I’ve also been around enough ‘celebrity influencers’ who’ve ridden an economic wave to become ‘Godfluencers’ to know: all that glitters is not gold.
So suffice it to say, I was open but skeptical…
(Yep, sometimes I wish I wouldn’t be this honest lol.)
But then, if the guy coaches Fortune 50 CEOs, has a lengthy waiting list with international prime ministers & presidents, and more…give the guy a break lol
He touched on some brilliant insights, such as:
– how to disqualify prospects that 99% of the world would be dying to work with (brilliantly executed at his level)
– how to use the 80/20 of the 80/20 to create cascaded influential changes
– the unstoppable nature of well-packaged fundamental principles that actually work
– the impact of fragmentation on our current work cultures
But what resonated most deeply was the message of his life:
– his unassuming manner
– his brilliant communication
– his deep understanding of people & culture
– his commitment to making faith conversations follow results & having them by invitation-only
Whether or not I’ll get back to binging on his content, I don’t know…
But I do know the profound impact of spending an afternoon with him and 200 other leaders as he pulled back the curtain on how he lives his life…
