if you’re an EMPLOYEE, you’re on your own for this
(and no boss ever told me this)
It’s the myth of the ‘heaven on earth’ workplace, and here’s what I mean…
Every business is, at some level, optimized for profitability.
It’s a sliding scale between ‘do good’ and ‘make money’. If they slide too far to ‘do good’, they’re no longer in business. If they slide too far to ‘make money’, they burn bridges with employees, customers, vendors, and more.
I know some folks on both sides.
The secret that the ‘extreme do-gooders’ don’t tell you is that a) they’re in a market that allows them higher profit margins, and b) they’re using it as a recruiting tool for top-tier talent.
They also don’t tell you (but you can be sure) that if they know anything about business, and you’re working for them, they’re making money on you…
What it means for you?
If you’re burning out…
If you’re not making what you need to make…
If you’re not happy with where you are…
It’s on YOU.
Yes, some bosses will work with you to make adjustments, but every boss has limitations just how far they can make the shift.
Sometimes, they’ve got such strong assumptions about your identity and capacity that they can’t fathom any a place you might succeed.
(Happened for me.)
Based on my observation, 4 things make an exceptional work experience:
– you’ve got working competence (and/or can grow it)
– you don’t have to ‘go against the grain’ to get the job done
– you’re innately compelled to do the work
– you’re in a great culture & environment
Many of the people who say you “can’t have it your way all the time” haven’t experience what it’s like to “have it your way most of the time”.
Over the years, I’ve been helped a number of friends make a change…just a few examples:
– from construction to tech
– from nonprofit volunteer to top-performing salesperson w/in 1yr
I’ve even had spouses express deep gratitude (with tears) that their bread-winner finally found a role that fit them..
All of these have a theme…
They stopped waiting on their employer to save them…
They let go of who they ‘should’ be…
They embraced who they are when they’re free to be themselves..
They found an opportunity with breathing room in the market…
I’ve been studying people for as long as I can remember. I’ve been told I’ve got an uncanny knack for figuring out what makes people tick.
(I’ll let my friends figure out if it’s true?)
I’ve had people courageously make changes.
I’ve had people freak out & stay stuck.
Biggest difference? How willing they were willing to humbly & courageously face their fears, and let someone walk with through past the discomfort into their new arena…
Up until now, I’ve only done this for friends who specifically asked…
Recently, I had someone reach out for some support in making a career shift.
I made them what I think is a drop-dead no-brainer offer…
But again… I might be wrong lol
And I figured if I do it for one, why not do it for more?
This is one of those, extremely affordable, fun, and potentially life-changing offers…
If you’re an employee & aren’t sure you’re in the right lane…
If you’re burning out & stuck…
If you want to talk to someone who’s been on both sides…
Hiring the wrong people..
Or BEING the wrong person…
Drop me a line, I’d love to chat
